I really do not like to shop

My son is getting married next month and I need to buy a dress for the wedding. Why can't I wear something I already have in the closet???? Well color, he is getting married on St Patrick's Day, and their colors are emerald green and black. I don't own anything in emerald green. It isn't a popular color right now.

I am not a shopper, I really do not like going to a mall, so I do the Kohls, TJ Maxx, or Ross; something other than the mall. But it takes me days to work up the energy and get myself in the mental state so I can walk into a store. I tried to check on-line but you can't really see the color, and I need to try things on because I have lost so much weight.

Wednesday, my daughter came over to take me to lunch, so we stopped by the store so I could look for a dress. After walking and looking and getting depressed, she found a top in the right color of green. It was in the junior department and I have not been able to wear a junior in years. So I tried on an extra large in juniors, and it was too big. I got a large and it fit great. So that jazzed me that I could wear a large junior. Just so happened she had some Khols Cash, so she offered it to me and I got the top for free. That really excited me. One that the top didn't cost me anything and second that my daughter helped me out. It was great.

Now I need to find a skirt or Capri's to wear with it, so I will have to go into a store once again, but I have time to work up the nerve to do it.

You see, I have this anxiety thing going on which keeps me away from people. I work on it, it is not immobilizing but darn close. I have been known to hyperventilate just thinking about walking into a crowd. The things I have to do are grocery shop. I know I can write my list, go in the store, get what I need, pay and get out. But to shop, try clothes on, interact with people-no hard to do.

I am OK when with someone. They have a purpose in shopping, I can go along, they are my safety net. But if given a choice to go along, I will opt out every time. How sad is that?

  1. Hi Peggy! It seems I notice a lot of people getting married on St. Patricks Day. My maiden name is O'Connor and I married a McLarty, so we thought it would be neat to marry on St. Pat's Day - but that year it landed on a Sunday and the church wouldn't marry us , so we opted for the 16th (Saturday). We still had the theme, although my colors were light green and lavander. It was nice, but foggy on my wedding day. I ran into my best friend from high school about 10 years later and she too had married on St. Patrick's Day! Funny!

I avoid clothes shopping myself. I am so out of style and what looks good and what doesn't. I like to watch "What Not to Wear" and hope someone will come ambush me and teach me the ways of the fashion world!

My sister has problems with anxiety, and found out that she had a severe Vitamin D deficiency - which contributes to anxiety! Just a tid-bit of info!!

  2. What is odd about the whole St Patrick's Day wedding is we are not Irish be decent, nor his his fiancee. Well, maybe there is some, my mother's maiden name was McKay. When growing up we never really discussed the Irish decent. My dad was German by decent, coming from Eisenhand on his mother's side. My son is obssessed with Ireland. Years ago, he even started talking with an Irish brogue. He is a strange kid.

I take 2000 mgs of Vit.D everyday because I was deficient. I didn't realize that Vit D helped with anxiety.

  3. Peggy, I totally hear what your saying about being anxious and not wanting to leave the house. If you've read my blog, you know I have similar issues. Have your tried any other herbal remedies for anxiety? St. John's Wort is great for mild depression/anxiety. But there's nothing wrong with going to the doctor (if you are able) and asking about it. Why deny yourself happiness. The doctor won't judge you, they see everything and they're just doing a job, you know?
Green and black are very interesting colors for a wedding. Glad you could find something to wear, and for free! Congrats on your weight loss. Did you have surgery, or do it "the old fashioned way"?

  4. I am just the opposite. I love to shop! The odd thing about that is when I really don't have the extra money, I find every thing and when I have the money, I find nothing. Maybe it's just an excuse to get out. I am a very social person and even if I go by myself and I don't have any one to talk to.............I still just like to be around people.

I get anxeity and panic attacks myself, but I don't let that stop me. I have medication for it, but I usually do not take it. I hate taking pills. I just try to stay focused on the positive side and if I feel myself slipping, I take a seat, take a few breaths and try to calm down. It usually works if I'm really concentrating.

How did you loose the weight? I have been struggling with weight for over the last year. I was putting on weight and finally went to the doctor. I found out I have a hypothyroid (too slow). I do take the medication for that as it could cause death!
